Progressive Style

Roxanne's hair was really dark, almost black, with light, sandy brown (level 7) roots. Her strands would lay flat with absolutely no volume. It was bulky on the bottom with an almost triangular shape to it.

For her cut, Stephanie Estes (of PON International in Anaheim Hills, California) did a lot of layering to create shape and texturizing in the crown for fullness.
To create a lighter, more natural-looking color, Stephanie lifted the color to get rid of the black, using a double application on the ends because they were so dark. She then went back in and applied a series of low lights with chestnut and chocolate brown. On top she toned with warm brown and underneath with a neutral brown for depth.
To style, Goldwell Serum leave in conditioner was worked in all over then Top Whip was added for volume. PON International Turn it Up styling spray was used on the crown and in the front fringe to create lift. After blow-drying with a large round brush for volume, Stephanie sprayed small diagonal partings with Goldwell Light Kiss and wrapped each around a 1.25-inch curling iron in random directions. Once all hair was done, the curls were raked through with her fingers coated with shine spray then a light burst of finishing spray provided the right amount of hold.
